Research Assistant I JOB #539 The position is located in Portland, OR (.50 FTE)
Description of Project : This NIH-funded project studies the health benefits of exercise on patients with Parkinson’s disease.
Purpose : The Research Assistant I (RA) will primarily be responsible for performing research activities according to specific protocols and procedures. The RA will provide support to various aspects of the research project, including recruiting study participants, scheduling assessment, monitoring and tracking intervention status, and performing general office and other project duties as necessary. The RA I will work under the close-to-general supervision of the Principal Investigator.
Examples of Duties : Recruit and screen potential study participants per specified procedures Arrange and schedule assessments with study participants Monitor and track assessment and intervention progress Collect monthly patients data at the intervention site and update patient participation status Assist with checking, coding, and cleaning data, and maintaining data records and files Maintain regular contact with all participants over the course of intervention and follow-up periods Complete detailed paperwork to ensure accurate and on-time tracking of project- related data collection schedules Provide general office or project related duties as needed Position Requirements 1. Knowledge, skill, and ability : Demonstrated ability to learn and follow procedures and protocols for a behavioral research project; ability to communicate effectively with research staff and participants, both verbally and in writing. Required to be flexible with respect to work hours, including weekends, travel to the intervention site, and work on a variety of specific tasks assigned, including making recruitment/scheduling phone calls, and to increase effort on project during critical times. Required to be responsive, in a timely manner, to requests from PI and other team members. Ability to complete assigned work within a specified timeframe.
2. Experience and training : Bachelors degree and one to two years of research experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the job. Experience in and proficiency with Windows environment is essential. Specific software experience with MS Word, MS Publisher, and Excel is required.
3. Personal traits and characteristics : Must be able to work effectively with others and have good interpersonal skills. Must be able to work well under pressure. Must be willing to accept responsibility, and to show sound judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness. Must be willing to adhere to the principles of research confidentiality and integrity, and comply with the ORI computer use policy. Must value working in a collaborative environment.
Wage : $13.94 per hour
