Research Assistant II JOB# 537 Part Time (.5 FTE) Position Located in Eugene, OR
The four-year project funded by the National Cancer Institute will test the effectiveness of three ST cessation programs (a) a condition that combines the use of nicotine Lozenges and Assisted Self Help phone counseling (LASH), (b) a condition that receives only the Assisted Self Help (ASH) phone support, and (c) a minimal contact condition that receives Lozenges and mailed Self Help materials (LSH). We are looking for an RAII to assist in many aspects of research. Duties will include assisting in the design and development of intervention materials and assessment measures, and helping with project marketing activities, identifying referral sources, and helping to develop and carry out the marketing plan. The RA will also be trained in phone counseling for tobacco cessation and participate in supervision of the project phone counselors. Responsibilities will also include scheduling in-person meetings with some research participants as well as carrying out a predefined protocol in those meetings.
Position Requirements : Knowledge, skill and ability : Demonstrated ability to learn and follow procedures and protocols for a behavioral research project. Position requires training in a specific research protocol, and the need to assist in development of intervention materials, assessment measures, and other intervention program development as needed. Applicant will also be required to take two on on-line training programs: (1) a program in tobacco cessation counseling; (2) a program to obtain a certificate in Human Subjects’ Research protection. Candidate should have the ability to work in a collaborative setting, ability to communicate effectively with research staff and with program personnel and research participants (both verbally and in writing), and ability and experience in marketing and subject recruitment desirable. May be required to work flexible hours and to increase effort on project during critical times. Experience and training : Bachelors degree, preferably in social sciences, and three - five (3-5) years of increasingly responsible research experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the applicant with the knowledge, skill, and ability required to perform the job. Experience in using MS Office and the Internet from within a MS Windows environment required. Personal traits and characteristics: Must be able to work effectively with others and have good interpersonal skills. Must work well under pressure. Must be willing to accept responsibility, and to show good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness. Must be willing to adhere to the principles of confidentiality governing research work and the ORI computer acceptable use policy. Must value working in a collaborative environment.
