Funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA)
* Provides free treatment for adolescents experiencing difficulties with
drugs and alcohol and their families.
* Has trained therapists who can provide treatment in English and Spanish.
* Compares two different 14-week outpatient therapies: individual cognitive-behavioral
therapy (CBT), and integrated family and individual therapy (IBFT).
* Includes special training to reduce teens' risk of getting HIV.
* Includes follow-up visits 5, 8, and 18 months after treatment begins.
Families receive monetary compensation for completing follow-up visits.
Purposes:
1) To learn more about what treatments work best to reduce adolescent
alcohol and drug use.
2) To learn more about how to decrease adolescent problems related
to drinking or drug use, including depression, anxiety, HIV risk and trouble
in school or with the law.
