Current ORI Projects

Web and Phone Intervention to Maintain Postpartum Tobacco Abstinence (StayQuit)
To test the efficacy of a Web-based program designed to encourage the maintenance of nonsmoking by postpartum women who stopped smoking during pregnancy. Phase I will include focus groups and usability testing. In the second phase we will conduct a feasibility study in which postpartum women will be randomly assigned to an enhanced Web-based intervention or a Web-based control condition.
National Cancer Institute, 2011 - 2014
Principal Investigators: Brian G. Danaher (ORI), Michele Levine (University of Pittsburgh)
Co-Investigators: John R. Seeley, Edward Lichtenstein

Nicotine Lozenges and Assisted Self-Help for Smokeless Tobacco Cessation (LASH)
To evaluate the effectiveness of an intervention that combines the nicotine lozenge and assisted self-help compared to an assisted self-help intervention. Outcome will be measured by prolonged and point prevalnce all tobacco and smokeless tobacco abstinence at 3 and 6 months follow-up.

National Cancer Institute, 2010 - 2014
Principal Investigators: Herbert H. Severson (ORI) & Jon Ebbert (Mayo Clinic)
Co-Investigators: Brian G. Danaher, Judy Andrews, Edward Lichtenstein, Laura Akers

Web-based Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Women with Postpartum Depression (Web-PPD)
To test the efficacy of a Web-based cognitive behavioral post- partum depression treatment in terms of reducing depressive symptoms at a 6 week post-test and a 3 month follow-up.

Effectiveness of a Web-Assisted Quitline for Smokeless Tobacco Users (ChewFree II)
To test whether (a) participants who receive a Web-based smokeless tobacco cessation intervention will be more likely to be tobacco abstinent than participants who do not receive this intervention, and (b) whether participants who receive a telephone quitline intervention will be more likely to be tobacco abstinent than participants who are not in a quitline intervention.
National Cancer Institute, 2008 - 2013
