Portland Parenting Help

About the Study

In the Triple P Parenting Media study, we developed and tested a video-based approach to help parents learn effective parenting strategies for encouraging positive behavior in their children and reducing problem behaviors.

The video series is based on the award-winning Triple P Program Positive Parenting Program. Triple P has been shown in numerous scientific studies around the world to help parents gain confidence in their parenting, become more effective parents, and help their children succeed.

The study recruited 300 mothers of children aged 3-6 years old who were showing challenging levels of problem behaviors. Eligible mothers were primary caregivers for the children who were not receiving other parenting support services when recruited. Assessments were completed at three different times over the course of about eight months. The assessments included mother-child activities, questionnaires for the mother and her partner if available, and a series of telephone interviews with the mother about the child’s behavior at home.

Some of the mothers received the 10 episode Triple P Parenting Media video series after their first assessment was completed and some received the video series after their last assessment. The series consisted of an overview followed by specific topic episodes focuses on subjects like managing misbehavior, establishing good bedtime routines, and handling fight and aggression.
