Dr. Bergen's research spans aging, psychiatric and substance use disorders. Dr. Bergen is a principal investigator of translational projects focused on developing biomarkers and models for treatment of tobacco use disorder and opioid use disorder. Dr. Bergen serves as a member of scientific consortia, and committee member of and consultant to non-profit and for-profit organizations.
