Trainings

All of the studies evaluating this program have been conducted in a group format, rather than in an individual format. This serves several purposes, including capitalizing on social cohesion among group members, promoting attitude change by hearing other peers express statements against the thin ideal, and maximizing cost effectiveness. The group leader can be a school counselor, psychologist, nurse, or teacher. It is often useful to include a co-leader to help conduct the sessions (e.g. pass out materials and write participant responses on a whiteboard).

Training dates for 2010 are currently being planned.

If you are interested in attending a training please let us know by email. Include dates that you would be able to attend a training. You will be notified when the schedule is complete.

Experience suggests that the optimal group size is approximately six to eight participants because this ensures that the group leaders will allocate sufficient attention to each individual participant for in-session exercises. The program is designed to be presented in four 1-hour sessions conducted over 4 consecutive weeks, and out clinical experience suggests that conduction the sessions one week apart helps the participants learn and practice the skills discussed in-session.

Each session begins with a review of skills or concepts discussed in previous sessions and thus builds on the previous session. Group leaders should explain the rationale for each of the exercises presented in each session and at home and strongly encourage [participants to read and complete the assigned exercises between sessions.
