Predictors of Change Profiles in Studies of Adolescent Substance Abusers

Principal
Details
Although research has supported the effectiveness of a number of treatments for adolescent substance-use disorders, most studies have involved relatively small samples, and identifying variables that predict who will benefit from treatment, who will relapse, and who will resist change has been limited. This project combined data from seven adolescent treatment-outcome studies to examine predictors of distinct patterns of change. Understanding these change patterns is critical for developing or refining treatments to better meet the needs of individual adolescents and allocate treatment resources more efficiently to specific subgroups of youth.
